Love Devotional: Wednesday – Week 2

Week 2, Day 3 – Transcendence yet humble and lowly at heart.

For God so loved the world that He gave… John, The Beloved.

Now that we’ve got just a glance of the transcendence of God nature, let’s go back to the beginning to take a look at His master plan.

But before that we HAVE TO noticed something about God’s character or His interaction with His creation. It’ll be very difficult to prove that God knows the end from the beginning just from His interaction with His creation if it wasn’t for the fact that He has specifically said that about Himself and has proven that throughout the generations.

God interacts with His people as if He doesn’t have prior knowledge of situations. He interact with us at our level; right at the present, learning things about us as we share it with Him like He does with us. It’s incredible! He actually enjoys the process of learning things about His creation daily as we communicate with Him. It’s like unless you tell Him something about yourself He’ll act like He doesn’t know.

I remember the time when I was mediating on God; Who He is and what’s He is like and I was so fascinated about the beauty of His ways. And I went like God you’re a fascinating being. And I heard deep within me God saying “You also fascinate me”. Now when I heard that my first thought was “No way” that’s impossible. I look at myself and I’m like God I’m a mess; what is so fascinated about me? God was like “because there’s no one on this planet like you Kwame. Everything about you; your personality, characters, even things you don’t like about yourself. Your uniqueness fascinate me”. That’s when I realised Good actually enjoys doing life with us and loves watching over us. No wonder David said His thoughts on us outnumber the sands on the seashore.

And its like that throughout scriptures, right from the start. When Adam & Eve disobeyed God; God came to the garden like He’s done many times. But this time He couldn’t find Adam. So He called out “Adam, where are you?” But what’s more interesting was that Adam & Eve actually thought they could hide from Him. The only reason according to the scripture that God knew what had happen was that Adam said he was afraid, failing to realised that since the day he was created he has never felt fear.

Same with Cain, when he lied about what he has done to his brother Abel, God was like “I know what you’ve done because your brother’s blood is crying out to me”. Same with Noah, Abraham, Moses & the Israelites.
(I encourage you to read the Book of Genesis & Exodus with a focus on how God interact with His people. Its so fascinating).

And it seems like this is not just with humans but also with angels too. In 1 King 22 we saw a peek into the heavenly realm; the way God works with His angelic beings. In this story Jehoshaphat, the good King of Judah allied himself with the evil King of Israel (Ahab) to go to war with him. But before Jehoshaphat will help Ahab, he asked him to seek the Lord first. The prophet Micaiah was called to tell them if the Lord is on their side.
The prophet said He saw God sitting on His throne with His angels around Him. And God ask His angels “Who can set a trap for Ahab into going to war so that he could be killed”. And different angels gave their suggestions on how they think they could entice Ahab until finally one angel said something and God went “oh that’s a good idea. I like that, go and do that and it’ll work.” WOW. The all-knowing God seeking suggestions from His angels.

SIDE NOTE: Ever wondered why Lucifer thought He could over-throne God and more surprisingly how he was able to convinced other angels that he will succeed and will do a better job than God? Does he know something about God that we don’t know?…or was it that we know something about God that he didn’t know then?

The way God interact with His creation and our (humans) priviledged position in God tells me that even though angels have been with God way longer than us and even sees God face to face. Some people today on earth knows God than some of the angels in heaven.

Today as you meditate on God and His fascinating ways; keep in mind that You fascinate Him by simply being yourself. He is not dealing with you and your mistakes but rather enjoying and loving you. Yes it is right and necessary for you to uphold Him where He rightly belongs ABOVE ALL but not forgetting that He interact with you at your level in order to bring you to His level. He is the transcendence God but humbly lowly with you.

SCRIPTURE MEDITATION
Romans 11:33-36
Oh, the depth of the riches of the wisdom and knowledge of God!
How unsearchable his judgments, and his paths beyond tracing out!
“Who has known the mind of the Lord? Or who has been his counselor?”
“Who has ever given to God, that God should repay them?”
For from him and through him and for him are all things.
To him be the glory forever! Amen.
